Frequently Asked Questions
Q:When does the NGWCA meet?
A: We meet the 2nd Saturday of each month (except August). Noon – 1:30
p.m. at Baltimore Montessori Public Charter School, 1600 Guilford Ave.
Emails and flyer reminders are distributed beginning the previous
weekend. Most blocks have a “fly team” representative who distributes
the print version of the meeting announcement. Additional volunteers
always welcome.
Q:What are the boundaries of Greenmount
West?
A: On the East - Greenmount Avenue
On the West - Hargrove Alley
North - south side of North Avenue

Q:What Police District do I live in?
A:Greenmount West is a border community and served by two police
districts. Most of Greenmount West is in the EASTERN District. The
property along the west side of N. Calvert + Station North Townhomes are
officially in the CENTRAL District BUT all of GW has an active working
relationship with the Eastern District.

A: Trash pick up for most of the neighborhood is IN FRONT OF YOUR HOME
unless otherwise directed by Department of Public Works. Fines are

with lids.
Fridays – recyclables in bins or clearly marked boxes/bags.
Recycling Details
Benefits of recycling:
1. reduces food source for rats
2. recycling is a revenue generator for this cash-strapped City.
3. 50-60% of household trash is recyclable.
Street Cleaning: Street sweeping trucks come four days a week in order
to help keep down the street trash. Until there is a shift in the prevailing
attitudes regarding discarding trash on the streets and sidewalks we
need this service. Much of the neighborhood is a wind tunnel for trash
from North Ave. Read the posted signs.

Police, Fire, Ambulance
City Services: 311, 6am -11 pm, 7 days per week

Q:Where are Greenmount West community
managed open spaces?
A: Brentwood Commons is a sweet, pocket park with young dogwood trees, a
path and lawn. It is located at the north end of the 1800 block of
Brentwood. Contact Lowell Larssson.
Brentwood Garden is a 6,000 square foot vegetable garded located in the
1700 block of Brentwood. It is the brainchild of Dale Hargrave, a long
time resident of the 400 block of E. Lanvale. Visitors and volunteers
are welcome. Check in with Dale, 410.905.3854.
McAllister Park is located in the 300 block of McAllister Street. It is
a large, interior pocket park with a swing set and has been officially
adopted by “Friends of McAllister Park” who keep it clean and mowed.
Families, children and dog walkers are welcome to enjoy the park and
pick up after themselves. Contact Anne Clewell, 410.433.1040.
Hunters Square is located at 1700 Hunter. It is a small, interior pocket
park. Volunteer point person needed.
Q:Who cleans & mows the vacant lots?
A: Call 311 to request service for a specific address. Be able to
provide address and condition of the property. Unfortunately the City of
Baltimore doesn’t have the resources to keep up with city owned vacant
properties so it may take up to 14 days for the request to be serviced.
Be sure to write down the service request number for follow up. The City
does not mow private property unless it becomes a code enforcement issue
but keep calling 311 for service. The more people who call about a
concern, the more likely it will get someone’s attention.
Adopt-a-Lot: Several Greenmount West residents have decided to
informally adopt lots near them for gardening or having a nice outdoor
retreat. After managing the lots –mowing, cleaning - for a few seasons
we encourage residents to consider joining the city-wide Adopt-a-lot
program. It’s a simple application. The City/private property owner
still owns the property but the resident or group assumes responsibility
for maintaining it and has full use of it. Why put personal sweat-equity
into a property you don’t own? You live here and have to live with the
derelict property owners disregard. Plus you’re removing an eyesore from
the community. Props to you. Contact Anne Clewell, 410.433.1040.
Community Mower: A cared-for lot sends the message that residents care.
The community association has purchased a mower for community use and is
hoping to establish a “tool lending” shed soon. See Dale Hargrave to
borrow. 410.905.3854.
Greenmount West participates in semi-annual Clean & Green events, street
tree plantings and bi-weekly clean and green efforts. Additional
volunteers are needed to help lead these sanitation efforts. Contact
Dale Hargrave, 410.905.3854.
